Traditionally network matters have been divided into two main parts, the network technology and the application technology. Today there are a number of challenges within the infraservices area where these two parts meet. In addition to raw bandwith a number of network components, most traditionally regarded as applications, are necessary for building advanced network applications.Examples of these are proxies, directory services, multicast, Quality of Services and multimedia services. Infraservices also ecompasses traditional network services and security issues. Nordunet2 will encourage and seek to support worthy projects within these areas.

In many of the potential projects under Nordunet2 charters there is a need for a general underlying technology which covers the use of adequate capacity networking. Therefore Nordunet2 will seek to survey the status and needs of the involved parties (universities etc). It is essential that each applicant within the other areas is aware of the infrastructural needs their respective solutions have, and that they have singeled this out in a separate discussion in the application/description.
